Hi all, it’s been a few weeks now since we’ve been hit by the floods. The damage caused to property has been unprecedented. However, what we’ve seen is a community unite. People from near and far coming to support Cumbria in it’s time of need. It’s something we warmly appreciate and over the coming months will continue to welcome.
Social media has played an important part in the relief effort. Communities has been mobilised and have worked together as a team through Facebook and Twitter.
Being the festive period the Carlisle Ambassadors stepped up to the task of helping families with support by arranging a Christmas Party (#spiritofcarlisle) for all those effected by the floods. Event was very well supported with Carlisle United in attendance along with local band Hardwicke Circus.
Ravi Singh and the team from Khalsa Aid where back up again and provided food for affected families (1,000 hot cooked meals). MEP Julie Ward was also on hand to show support along with so many others willing to help the region.
The last few weeks have been challenging for the region but you only have to see the spirit shown to realise that we’ll be back stronger than ever. I’ve met some extraodrinary people doing amazing work over the last few weeks and I’d like to mention some of them for the commitment and hard work – Sue Keavney, Carol Milnes, Simon Harrison, Kate Wilson, Michelle Master, Inderjit Singh, Ravi Singh, Nic Stobbs, Matt Bond, Dominique Harrison and many more. It’s been a fantastic team effort and more will need to be done.
Last point is to say “THANK YOU” – we really appreciate all the support from everyone.
